STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS

MNHR-Bangladesh has identified seven strategic priorities that will guide its future actions and ensure long-term impact:

Promote diversified income sources, agricultural development, and sustainable livelihoods to reduce poverty and ensure consistent access to nutritious food for marginalized families in both rural and urban areas.

Provide practical and demand-driven training in vocational skills, financial literacy, communication, and entrepreneurship to empower disadvantaged groups—especially women and youth—to build better futures and actively participate in the workforce.

Strengthen community-based systems and infrastructure to ensure inclusive and equitable access to quality education, essential healthcare, adequate nutrition, and safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services—especially for children and the most vulnerable.

Implement emergency preparedness and rapid response strategies, alongside long-term climate adaptation and risk reduction efforts, to help communities cope with natural disasters, environmental degradation, and the growing effects of climate change.

Advocate for the protection of children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation; promote human rights; and foster transparency, accountability, and participation at all levels of governance to create a just and inclusive society.

Support smallholders, artisans, and entrepreneurs by improving product quality, access to finance, and infrastructure, while facilitating direct market connections and inclusive value chain development to boost income and sustainability.

Work in low-income urban settlements to provide access to affordable housing, basic services, skills development, and livelihood opportunities—ensuring social inclusion and dignity for those living in extreme poverty.

PROJECTS & PROGRAMS

FOOD SUPPORT DURING EID by MNHR Bangladesh

More than 36 percent of the total population of Bangladesh is suffering from food insecurity and malnutrition. During Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, countless families struggle to afford a proper meal, which limits their ability to celebrate with dignity. Our Food Support Program provides nutritious meals and food packs to those in need, focusing on :

  • Distribution of fresh Qurbani meat to struggling households in different parts of Bangladesh, including selected FDMN (Rohingya) people living in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.

  • Ramadan iftar and Eid meal drives for dignified celebration among low earning households

  • Special focus on widows, orphans, and persons with disabilities

SHELTER & COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE

Safe homes and functional communal spaces foster resilience and social cohesion. Keeping this in mind, we have initiated our shelter and community infrastructure project, to build safe houses, install deep tube-wells, and renovate poorly constructed mosques across various districts of Bangladesh.

  • Construction of low‐cost, flood‐resilient houses for landless families

  • Renovation of existing, poorly conditioned mosques with improved, hygienic Ozukhana with water tank.

  • Installation of tube wells and hand pumps, to promote WASH.

EDUCATION SUPPORT

Education is a fundamental right for all, yet many children in Bangladesh, especially in rural areas, lack access to proper schooling. With a 62.92 percent functional, and 74.23 percent general literacy rate, the country has made progress but is still far from achieving universal education for all. To address the challenges in education, MNHR Bangladesh is committed to:

  • Hafez Sponsorship Program for full support of academically brilliant but financially struggling madrasah students.

  • Providing school supplies, uniforms, and scholarships for students in need.

  • Conducting adult literacy programs to educate parents and guardians.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Although Bangladesh’s general literacy rate is 74.23%, only 62.92% of citizens possess functional literacy, leaving many without the foundational skills needed for gainful employment and economic mobility.

  • Life-skills and vocational training courses (basic IT, shorthand, tailoring etc.) for youth and women.

  • Adult literacy project for bridging learning-gaps among struggling, uneducated professionals.

  • Short term certifications and soft-skills training for professionals.

HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE

Bangladesh ranks among the most disaster-prone countries globally, facing annual floods, cyclones, and rising climate displacement. Over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees currently reside in camps in Cox’s Bazar under dire conditions. Our Humanitarian Response program focuses on providing effective humanitarian assistance, restore dignity, and support recovery.

  • Emergency aid for flood/cyclone-affected areas.

  • Humanitarian support for Rohingya communities: food parcels, hygiene kits, learning materials.

  • Training and mobilization of in-house youth volunteers for disaster response and first-aid services.

  • Distribution of clothing and shelter repair materials.
